What are we about

In 2018, after a 12-hour shift at Limon Correctional Facility, I was driving home on Christmas Day—hoping to make it in time for the kids to open gifts. Two miles from my house, I fell asleep behind the wheel. The car rolled three times.

I walked away with minor injuries. But I didn’t walk away unchanged.

That moment became a turning point. I realized I wanted my life to be shaped by purpose—not routine. I made the decision to allow suffering to change me.

That’s where the name Heartwood 124 comes from—James 1:2–4:

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,

because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.

Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
